Apply to reinstate your registration or transfer from non practising to the practising category

Those no longer on the NSW Register of Architects and architects in the non practising category who wish to provide architectural services in NSW must apply to be re-registered in the practising category by completing online Form 06 and complying with the registration conditions as a practising architect.

Conditions for re-registration in the practising category

Conditions for re-registration as a practising architect may apply depending on how long you have been in the non practising category or deregistered:

0-3 years non-practising or since last registered

Your application will be automatically processed if you meet the CPD requirements for your particular circumstances (Refer Factsheet on Continuing Professional Development). You may be required, at the Registrar’s discretion, to provide supporting documentation such as a current CV showing employment history and a record of CPD undertaken in the 12-24 months prior to the application for re-registration.


3-5 years non-practising or since last registered

If you have not been registered in the practising category for the last 3-5 years, you are required to submit a current CV showing employment history and demonstrate that in the last 12 months you have completed a minimum of 20 hours of CPD, of which at least 10 hours must be Formal CPD activity. At least 3 hours of the 10 hours of Formal CPD must address the mandatory topics (Refer Factsheet on Continuing Professional Development). If your CPD record is not up to date you may be required, at the Registrar’s discretion, to undertake specific CPD activities and/or may be required to attend a re-registration interview.


5+ years non-practising or since last registered

If you have not been registered in the practising category for a long time, you are required to submit a current CV showing employment history and demonstrate that in the last 12 months you have completed a minimum of 20 hours of CPD, of which at least 10 hours must be Formal CPD activity. At least 3 hours of the 10 hours of Formal CPD must address the mandatory topics (Refer Factsheet on Continuing Professional Development). You are also likely to be required, at the Registrar’s discretion, to undertake specific CPD activities prior to re-registration. You may be required to attend a re-registration interview.


The Registrar assesses all applications on a case-by-case basis.
