Big City Life

Big City Life

Housing
Barcelona, Venice, Amsterdam, Copenhagen

An international study of high-density housing projects that are highly desirable places to visit, work and live. Using European cities (old and new) as precedents, this research aims to show that denser urban environments have more capacity to enrich social life. It also seeks to show that ‘high-density’ does not have to mean ‘high-rise’.

The study focuses on ancient, twentieth-century and contemporary housing developments in Venice, Perugia, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Copenhagen, which challenge many current perceptions of high-density environments to show rich and satisfying places of human inhabitation. The intention of the study is to identify useful precedents for new high density urban projects.

Each place is recorded using time-lapse photography which can be seen at: http://highdensityliving.wordpress.com/
